Removing moles, skin tags and other lesions using Cryotherapy

mole removal

Did you know…the removal of skin lesions such as skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas, age spots and benign moles is no longer treatable as a standard NHS procedure?

However, the need for safe, effective removal of these lesions is still necessary and important to some individuals.

Here at TheHealthTree Clinic, we offer a quick, low-risk solution to these common skin lesions with Freezepen.

There are many different types of skin lesions, from MOLES, skin tags, warts age spots and other skin growths that appear on the face and body.  While they may be harmless and are no cause for concern, you may feel bothered by them if they catch on clothing or by their prominence.

The good news is that a multitude of skin lesions can be removed using a procedure called CRYOTHERAPY where they are quite simply ‘frozen off’.

Here at TheHealthTree Clinic, we take the safety of our clients seriously which is why all skin lesions are assessed prior to treatment with our NMC(Nursing Midwifery Council, body of registration) registered Nurse Practitioner, Gabriella Greco-Turner, GP or Dermatologist.

What is Cryotherapy?

It all sounds rather cool . . .
Cryotherapy is the controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by the precise application of extreme cold.   Cryotherapy treatment refers to the removal of moles and various lesions by freezing them.  Here at The HealthTree Clinic we use our FDA and CE  Registered Freezpen. Freezpen is the latest branded product from the world leader in handheld Cryotherapy with FDA and CE Approvals ensuring the highest professional standards. Freezpen provides Gold Standard removal of Skin Lesions in Dermatology and Aesthetic Practices. The Freezpen emits a pressurised super fine jet of nitrous oxide from its tip making the treatment incredibly precise and safe for all skin types and skin tones and is safe enough to use on children. We also hold a Paediatric Cryotherapy Clinic where we treat common conditions such as verrucae, milia and viral warts.

What are the benefits of Cryotherapy?

Treating skin lesions with Freezpen ensures safe, quick and painless freezing treatment for the effective removal of a large range of medical and cosmetic skin lesions. The process is very safe and accurate and has the benefits of no anaesthesia, injections or scarring.

This method of skin lesion removal can be used for any superficial skin lesion that involves mainly the epidermis. This includes benign lesions such as Syringomas (link here with photo), skin tags, benign moles, solar lentigines (age spots), and benign lesions such as seborrheic keratoses.

How does Cryotherapy work?

This medical non-surgical treatment involves the removal of skin lesions by using nitrous oxide, the skin temperature is lowered to minus 89 degrees for 5-15 seconds, depending on the thickness of the lesion, this can be repeated depending on the skin type and nature of the lesion.

Following treatment the skin may become slightly itchy, red and swollen, this is normal. The treated area may become darker in the few days that follow and will begin to crust.  This will eventually flake away, taking anything between 5-14 days. The healing process differs from client to client and is largely dependent on the skin type and the lesion that has been treated.

A follow-up appointment will be scheduled following your treatment to review the results and assess whether further treatment is required. Any treatments carried out at the review appointment are free of charge.

Is Cryotherapy suitable for me?

Cryotherapy is suitable for all adults and children of all skin types and ethnicities. Cryotherapy is not recommended in clients with certain medical conditions, however following full medical consultation and skin examination with our Nurse Practitioner your suitability for treatment will be assessed.

When will I see results?

Healing time can take anything between 4-6 weeks, although some much smaller lesions may heal in less than 4 weeks.  Healing time varies from client to client, depending on the skin type and the nature of the skin lesion that has been treated.

It is vitally important to apply sunblock (SPF 50+) to sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck and hands until the area has completely healed and repigmented back to your normal skin tone. (could link here to the post-healing cream and sunblock I use post-treatment.

If you would like to book an appointment to discuss whether this is a suitable treatment option for you, you can book a free 30-minute telephone with us the first instance prior to coming to the clinic where we will be more than happy to guide you through your options and answer any questions.

Continuity of care is important to us, we offer complete wrap-around patient care from consultation to aftercare. Close post-treatment follow-up is important to ensure we can address any concerns, review results and ensure client satisfaction.
